I have a customer who will have a paddling buddy only 2 months after shoulder surgery.  He is concerned that if the buddy has some problems, how to get help.

They will be within an area (Kawishiwi River) where I know Verizon & AT&T works.  But what about U.S. Cellular?  I have heard the phone service with them is not too great.  But what about texts he can send to someone at home?  Anyone here have experience with U.S. Cellular in the Ely area?

I thought most plans offered free roaming, but maybe not. I had good service Farm to Bsld Eagle on T-Mobile (and will never take a phone again) and my partner had good service on Net 10, who use the other carriers.

You are right, many offer free roaming but that doesn't mean their coverage works everywhere. And some of my customers have told me they have problems with US Cellular.

I just thought that a text might work for an emergency. Otherwise he may rent a Spot tracker from us, but is not sure on that yet.
