I have a trip to Algonquin planned and there aren't any outfitters who rent canoes with padded yokes like they have around the BWCA and Quetico. I am looking to take out the contoured yoke on the outfitter's canoe and put one in with a padded yoke. Does anyone know who sells a yoke like this? Does anyone have experience with a yoke like this?

I've used a couple of different yokes like that - the clamp-on type. They tend to slip a bit, so it's good to have a couple pieces of thin rubber to provide more friction between the yoke and the gunwales. Also, be sure to use the big 4" foam pads if you're carrying a boat weighing more than about 35 lbs. The CVCC sling-type pads don't provide enough cushioning for a heavier boat.

Many thanks to AmateurHour, BillConner and Gavia. For those of you who have shown interest in this, I'll summarize what I found out:
Steven Schon of Piragis informed me that the universal yoke that they carry is too short for the Quetico 16 that I will be renting.
Spring Creek Outfitters does indeed have a universal yoke ($40) and pads ($40) and I think this would work. I haven't yet decided whether to go ahead with this or not as I am a little nervous about removing the yoke from a rental canoe. If I do go ahead, I'll be sure to take along some pieces of old inner tube (special thanks to Gavia for that tip!).

Since most tandems come equipped wtih a carry yoke and pads, I assume you'll be paddling solo. If you have a bench seat, a little time, and some skill with hand tools, you could make one yourself. Here's what I've done. It works very well. http://codabone.net/canoeing/canoes/seatyoke.htm
