I will be heading to the Brule Lake EP and have never been this far east before (Usually in Ely area).   I know Grand Marais has outfitters, but was curious if any other towns along Lake Superior HWY 61 have outfitters.  We are traveling about 10 hours, and I know it sounds petty, but if I can avoid driving the extra 40 miles round trip from where we have to turn north to Brule, It would save us close to an extra hour of drive time.  Anyway, any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sawbill is the closest one I know of-- which is really not that close at all......

There are at least a few, though Sawtooth is the only one I can find online. Seem to recall getting equipment 15 or so years ago from a Tofte outfitter and being pretty pleased; maybe that was them. I'll be up that way next week and can keep an eye out if it'll help.

Looking at the map of where your entry point is. It would be a bear to get to Sawbill Outfitters. I would go with Sawtooth Outfitters in Tofte. If you are staying somewhere close to Tofte is would your best bet to use Sawtooth.

I also think the only one on the way is Sawtooth.

Could've sworn there were a few in the Tofte/Schroeder area back in the day, but certainly not anymore. There are some rental places like Beaver Bay Sports, but the only full-on outfitter appears to be Sawtooth.
