Considering how far out this campsite is, I'm tempted to give it four stars. You usually do not find great sites that are this remote. Landing is easy in front of the camp. It is not a large campsite, but it has everything you need. There are a lot of jack pines. The fire grate is almost right next to the water. There is one good tent pad. There is another tent pad that is almost good and would work if needed.

3 star landing, be sure to go around the small point a couple dozen yards to find it as you might be tempted as we were to get out too soon where it's much too difficult to really want to deal with. Not the easiest to store canoes up on shore, away from the lake where they're safely away from the water. Tent pads are 1 star for us, anyway. We use two 4-man tents, one tent site is on a not insignificant slant and the other has multiple issues including inability to avoid having rock under the tent, no spacing beyond walls of tent and vegetation, and it's right in the middle of where anyone walking from the other (slanted) tent site must pass, and so is totally in the way. Kitchen is 2 star, as it is very tight and tough to maneuver in, and the one sitting log is really quite crappy. THAT ALL SAID THOUGH, THIS IS A MARVELOUS SITE when it comes to ambiance. Absolutely charming view over the lake, there's an island just a hundred yards away lending a wonderful sense of intimacy, it's essentially west facing so you can watch the weather come at you, and best of all you know you're smack dab in the most interior, isolated, least travelled part of the BWCA and you are not going to see a soul. BTW, there is shade if you're willing to move where you site as the day progresses. For this reason, despite the significantly below average aspects of the site detailed above, this is one of my all time favorite sites. I wish we had time to take a layover day here, it was that great. But don't - anyone coming down the Frost River who needs a place to stay because they can't do the whole thing in a day - AND YES THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE THAT, WE'RE IN THAT NUMBER (family of 4, 21/19 year old kids but 62/57 yr old mom and dad who trained extensively for this trip just simply can't do the whole river in a day)... this is their only option for a campsite.

Not the greatest site, sun is hot as there is limited shade at the shore and the tent sites. Looks like a hunting camp. Nice to have the lake to yourself in such a remote part of the BW.

Mostly overgrown and small. Good for a layover night.

This is the only campsite between Afton Lake and Frost Lake. If you heading East make sure you leave early enough to make it through the Frost River because there are NO campsite East of Bologna Lake until you reach Frost Lake
