Visiting during winter, I didn't experience any of the maladies plaguing the people before. We first tried to take a trail that looked like a portage a little north of this one before searching a bit longer. Once we found this one, it was easy to follow. The Little Bass end runs into a swamp and the trail looked like it goes around.

This portage was stunning on a dry, sunny, fall day. The terrain itself isn't bad, but there are 2 up & down sections, which means you have some climbing to do in both directions. Like anything, it would be more challenging when wet. Landing on N. Hegman side is tiny.

The portage does reroute northeast at the east end due to a marsh. It's good that you'll always cross west-to-east first, because finding the portage coming from Little Bass would be nigh impossible without recognizing where you came out. Also, ticks; each time we crossed we had a dozen or more ticks on us, unlike almost every other portage we've done.

East end (Little Bass Lk) actually re-routes to the northeast slightly, apparently due to an un-navigable mucky area caused by lower water levels.
