This area south of Murdock was completely burned by the last fire. The ridge south of here was burned right down to the rock. It reminds of the barrens land in the Canadian arctic. The portage trail is along the eastern edge of the trees that survived the fire by the creek. The trial was in good shape when I cross it and only required a few trees to be removed. The south entrance is marked with tree blazes on the small trees and blue flagging. There is an old fishing boat cache here from the local outpost camp on Murdock. The north entrance on Murdock is marked with a rock cairn.
