This portage was completely wiped out by the last fire in 2018, and left many standing dead trees and many that have fallen on the trail. The new jack pine are also growing back thick making it harder to find the old trail. It took me a long time to find the trail at the south end. Look for it at the NE side of Ugly Lake. I cleared it the best I could with a handsaw but still crawled over many sections. The worst was in the middle with many big trees down. I was told afterwards, that the Park was planning on chainsaw clearing this portage late in 2023, so it might be better now.
