This is the harder of the two portages on the Dahlgren. The south landing is OK, a lot of large boulders to maneuver around and then a steep but short climb to begin with. There are several downed trees to negotiate but nothing major. Rolling hills along a twisting path is the cornerstone of this portage. This route isn't used often and therefore this portage is quite overgrown. The trail is easy to follow though. The last 20 rods are quite buggy and a little bit muddy as the trail goes along the marshy shore of the Boulder River. The north landing is good and level with few obstacles.

Lightly used portage with a few ups and downs and some mud along the way. No major elevation gains and no real obstacles along the way.
