This creek, and the required portages, change with water level and beaver activity. The portage is correctly marked on here at 59 rods, Fisher maps incorrectly show 27 rods. The portage has some tricky footing and requires walking a bit in the stream, but is interesting and manageable.

DO NOT ATTEMPT IN A DRY YEAR! Attempted this portage from Maria to Hamburg. The first leg shown here is rough, rocky, up and down. The middle part, where it looks to be a stream, dries up in dry years. Outfitters will tell you there is a game trail to follow if you can't navigate the stream. Anything that looked like a game trail ended up in knee deep mud. Out of stubborness, made it all the way (without canoes or gear) to the next marked portion of this portage, but decided there was no way we could make it there with canoes and gear. Gave up for the first time in 10 trips through Quetico.
