I want to get from Sea Gull to the South Arm of Knife Lake. The shortest route is to through Ogishkemunci to Holt to Nabek to Nave to Knife. The problem is that the PaddlePlanner map shows no portages from Nabek to Nave to Knife, but on the paper map does. Do you know if these portages are still there and are useable? Google Images shows Nave as more of a slough than a lake so I'm wondering if it would be a muddy hell trying to get through there.

Which paper maps are you using? I looked at Voyageur Maps, and they don't show any portages on those lakes. (Makes me think I should take the Holt and Nabek portages off Paddle Planner.)

This comment was on another website in reference to the Holt-Nabek portage: "i have not been on this portage but i talked to guy who came into the south arm, i was fishing in that back bay. and i was like what the heck is that noise, cause no one comes that way and he confirmed dont take this way into knife"

The W.A. Fisher map #F-19 shows these portages, but F-32 does not.

It's my understanding that the faint trails are extremely difficult (If not impossible) to find/follow since the Cavity Lake fire. That said, i know people who bushwhacked to Holt from Ogishkemuncie a few years ago - they said a ton of brush and downed trees to contend with. It is not a maintained route but, maybe a private party has cleared it a bit since then???
