I would like to put in at Sawbill Lake and go all the way into Cherokee Lake. Is the Cherokee Creek paddle-able in both directions? Am I going to fight the current one direction?

Unless you are going in the early spring when there is runoff, most BWCA rivers/creeks have little or no discernible current. You actually have to be more concerned about whether there will be enough water in them to paddle at all. Cherokee Creek usually has sufficient water, but Ada Creek can be a little low at times - enough so that you may have to walk your canoe through the muck to get to the portages. This all depends on time of year and how much rain we've had. I haven't been there myself, so perhaps someone else can give some more insights.

Sawbill to Cherokee can be done in one day. This maybe a lone day if water level is low. In low water you will have to take the whole portage between Skoop and Cherokee creek. This portage can be hard to find if you're not looking for it. ( it's on the west side of the creek) If you have had some rain and water is up you will have a few lift overs and be able to paddle most of the way. Cherokee is a well used lake and all other portages are well used and easy to find. That's why the Skoop portage can be passed up so easily. ( it's not used as much). Once you get north of that portage the creek is 100% passable. Hope this helps you out.
