Hi Ben - I was just exploring the "other options" tab under the settings and discovered the "set current map as my default" button, which I thought was a handy option because the first thing I always do when I visit the site is to change the map.  However...it doesn't seem to work.  When I close the tab that Paddle Planner is open on, then go back to the site, I'm back to looking at the "National Map Topo" display.  The other default changes I've made (metric units and single carry portage) both work, so I assume the bug must be in the map button specifically.  It's not a big deal, I've been using the site for years just changing the map manually, but I figured you'd want to know.

As an aside, any idea why the shorelines of waterbodies in Canada show up twice in the "National Map Topo" display?  It almost looks like there are two projections for Canada being displayed at the same time.

Thanks!

Steve B.

The default map is working for me. It uses cookies, though, so if you have cookies disabled, it won't work. It is also specific to your computer, not your profile. I have plans to switch so it is saved in your user profile instead of on your computer.

I see the problem with the National Map Topo and am looking into it. Not sure if I can do anything, though - the map tiles come from the USGS, so there isn't much I can do about it. I did notice that the double shoreline disappears when you zoom in.

Yeah, there probably isn't anything I can do about the double shoreline. It seems to be a problem at the USGS - you can see it on the National Map here: https://apps.nationalmap.gov/viewer/

I guess the USGS doesn't care if they get Canada right

I figured out my default map bug...sort of.

The bookmark I use for Paddle Planner was sent to me many years ago...it's the BWCA/Quetico mapset.  NOT the BWCA/Quetico/Voyageurs mapset.  When I use the link to the B/Q/V route builder, I can change my default maps just fine.

Ahhh, the link has the map specified (the parameter in the url is maptype). The url parameters override any defaults you have set.
