How did everyone's permit day go? I only reserved one this year. If I go on other trips, I'll just see what is available at the time. I got the one I wanted, though it took a couple of tries - the website threw an error the first couple of times I tried. Good thing I got it - Kawishiwi Lake on the day I wanted is all sold out now.

I was able to snag all the ones I was looking for with only needing to change one by a day. Had similar issues with the website throwing an error right away. Wouldn't let me past the permit pickup location. Had to cancel and start over.

This is the first year I got my own permit. Previous years an outfitter always navigated the process for me. I was super nervous, but after getting on my knees and asking for help, I got the entry point and date on my first try. I’m so happy!!!!

I've never tripped in the BWCA before, this year will be my inaugural time. Based on everything I'd read, I was nervous about getting what I wanted, or even my second or third choices. Not sure what all the hype is about...I logged in two hours after the permits opened, got what I wanted, five mintues, easy peasy. Beginner's luck maybe. I still think Ontario's reservation system is a lot more civilized, lol.

I still think Ontario's reservation system is a lot more civilized, lol. Depends on which entry point and date you are trying to get. Some of them go within 5 minutes. For example, Little Gabbro only has 2 permits left for the entire season. And those permits are on May 4th and 5th, hardly busy times in the BWCA. Some entry points are less popular and always have permits. Bog Lake only has 3 reserved for the entire season - the inverse of Little Gabbro. Yes, I agree that Quetico's system is better. I won't say all of Ontario - if you listen to discussions about Algonquin's or Killarney's systems, you will hear plenty of complaints.

Fair...I haven't been to Algonquin since they went to the lake-specific reservations. And I have my reservation-booking day flagged on my calendar for going to Quetico this summer. I pine for the days where you could just show up at any backcountry park and head out on a trip without worrying about backed-up portages and racing people to get the last campsite on a lake (which I quite literally did in Kawartha Highlands PP some 25 years ago).

I pulled a permit for EP 62 (Clearwater) for early august. Our real goal is Wabakimi - but the Trump trade war /threats of making Canada the 51st state has caused me to hedge my bets. In the event that Canada closes the border-I didn’t want our family to miss out on our annual padding trip.
