The peninsula site on loon is definitely the best - get that if you can, it's majestic. That said, we really enjoyed Mallard-2. The old growth trees are magic. Canoe landing is easy and then the campsite is up a pretty steep hill--nice to look down at the lake through the huge trees. I'd def choose Mallard 2 over Mallard 1. They are similar, but Mallard 2 was more tucked in the woods. We had neighbors at Mallard 1 - they were visible but not super close. We had a very healthy looking and curious fox walk by while we were cooking breakfast. If you have time, definitely take the quick hike south and down to the site at the peninsula - there is a good swimming spot there.

Good site. Hard to find as the shoreline is heavily treed. Needed to go to Mallard 1 and follow shoreline. High water may have impacted the landing but it was a little mucky and lots of tree roots. Only space for one boat at a time. Site is a steep climb up. Good cooking area with stone slab and good logs around the fire. Tents from Mallard 1 are visible from latrine and generally the 2 sites are open to one another. The kids liked all the fallen old growth trees to play on. I didn’t like the lack of access to the shoreline or view of the lake.
