BWCA Campsite 1218 on Ensign

This is an interesting campsite with a very easy landing. There are a lot of flat rocks and rock shelves along the shoreline, so you can pull the canoe up and get out without much trouble. From the landing, it is a short hike up to the site, which sits about 10 to 15 feet above the water. Even though the site is close to the lake, the view from the kitchen is limited because trees and brush screen the water. There are two good tent pads and four maximum tent pads. I found one really good tent pad, one okay tent pad in the main camp area, and a couple of possible spots down trails into the woods. One of the main-area pads may be hard to stake because it seems to sit on flat rock with only a shallow layer of soil. The site also looked like it could grow up with a lot of tall grass later in the season, which made me wonder about ticks. Overall, it is a decent site and felt like the better option compared with nearby 1217.
