BWCA Campsite 1255 on Knife

The kitchen and tent areas are completely exposed to the sun, just a big open area surrounded by rather dense trees. The latrine is visible from the tent area. The landing wasn't too bad, but the water was very low, so there was a lot of scraping over rocks to get close enough. The swimming was nice, except for the small sharp rocks. I tried to improve the wading access by moving some rocks, but I'm sure the ice reshuffled everything over the winter. The view of the sunset was pretty, but was only visible from the water's edge. Trees mostly block the view from the kitchen area at the top of the stone steps.

Great site for a larger group if you don't mind all the tents being grouped together. Rocky landing with several terraces up to the main area. Great evening views and close proximity to Thunderhead point for a day trip. Stayed 2 nights here. Each evening we were blessed with swooping, soaring, and diving Eagles right in front of the site in the water between the island. It was amazing. I would have stayed another night to watch the Eagle Show again but we had to move on.

The landing is pretty nice - sandy/gravel. Someone had built a pier out of rocks in front of the site. It is a bit of a climb up to the site. The kitchen is the standard kitchen. The view of the lake from the kitchen is partly obscured by trees, but by and large is nice. The view of the sunset is nice from the landing. The tent pads are flat and large enough for a good size tent.

A group of 7 of us stayed 3 nights at this site. A lot of space for tents, as we had 6. The trees aren't great for setting up a rain tarp, but with some creativity we eventually made do. We followed a path to the northeast for a short trek to find bear hanging trees. Again, not ideal, but we made do. Overall a solid site, but nothing spectacular.
