This campsite is basically an open slab of rock, but despite that simple setup, it works okay. The landing is a rock shelf at the bottom, and I did not have any trouble using it.
The fire grate is up on top of the rock, roughly 10 feet above the water, which gives a nice view of the rapids to the west and the rest of Ensign Lake to the east. The site is right next to the portage to Splash Lake, so it will likely get a fair amount of traffic passing by. The site gets a lot of sun and does not have much shade, which could be good or bad depending on the weather.
I found three good tent pads and four maximum tent pads. One tent pad is behind the kitchen, and another good one is beneath a jack pine. The extra tent spot is down the latrine trail in a clearing off to the left, though staking may be difficult because it appeared to be shallow over rock. It is a practical site with a good view, but it is open and exposed.
