This is in a Primitive Management Area, so there are no maintained fire grates or latrines. I had a hard time seeing how the original marked location was ever a campsite. The area around the old marker was mostly swamp, beaver lodges, and moose trails, with no clear indication that there had ever been a usable campsite there. A little farther north along the western shore, near the northwest corner where Spider Lake comes to a point, I found a small opening in the trees that looked much more feasible. It is still not great, but it was the best option I saw along the southern shore of the lake.
The landing is basically a couple of five-foot breaks in the trees. I had to get wet to get out of the canoe, but once on land, it would be easy to pull the canoe into the site. The ground is moss-covered, probably over rock.
The first part is sloped, but farther up it levels out enough for one tent, with room for a second if needed. A small line of trees separates the tenting area from the lower opening that would probably serve as the kitchen area. It is screened by spruce, cedar, and one lone white pine. There also appears to be a beaver trail running right next to camp, with a beaver lodge across the bay, so you may have some company.
