BWCA Campsite 1442 on Knife

This campsite is in a burn area, probably from a fire within the last 20 or 30 years. The whole area is mostly young jack pines, with no real hanging trees. The site sits on an open peninsula, with the jack pines mainly behind camp. The landing is very easy along the peninsula. You can pull the canoe alongside the rocks and get out without much trouble. The kitchen is set right behind a clump of cedar trees, and it is very close to them, close enough that I would be a little concerned about the cedars around the fire grate. There was no seating around the fire grate, and the site looked like it gets very little use. There is one good tent pad and one additional possible spot. The good pad has long grass growing in it, so it also looks unused, but it is fairly level and large enough for a tent, with only a few lumps. The second possible pad is sloped and somewhat rocky. This is a manageable low-rated site, meaning you could camp here if needed, but it is not one I would choose if better options were available.

Burned area. Not much cover. Too exposed. Didn't stay here because site was not in good shape at all. It should be closed for a few years to let it grow back.
