After failing to find two sites (143/144), we found this one. It was barely there. Before this year it was probably a very small site, almost at water level, but this year it was a wreck. The fire grate was twisted and hanging on by a thread. The water had been a few feet up the trees on shore during the spring 2022 flooding. The latrine was high enough to be safe from the flooding. What was probably the tent pad was covered by downed saplings, broken by the spring ice. For lack of any other clearing, we slept on the flattest rock we could find on shore. The site faces north, and the exposure to the wind was useful in a buggy season. We got beautiful northern lights overnight, visible straight out the north-facing tent window.
