BWCA Campsite 1619 on Basswood

Our group did not find the appeal of this site which was unfortunate because we had this as a top option. First off where is the landing? Water levels were low but we had a heck of a time getting in and out of the canoes here, we were thankful we didn't have to get our gear out or get the canoes onto shore. It seemed very quite dangerous. We ended up only staying for lunch because we could not find enough adequate hammock spots, we were a group of 3 hammock campers. We could barely find one. There maybe more options further up the hill but we didn't want to navigate that at night. Tent campers had a couple options but they seemed rough. The land on this island was rough overall rocks, roots and steeps everywhere and it that didn't seem ideal. Some positives of the site were the views. Beautiful views from the kitchen and I'm sure sunsets would be a dream. I could see fishing in the surrounding area could be good. If you planning on fishing from the island id plan on some rough terrain but probably good fishing.

Appeared to be a nice campsite under normal conditions. We were unable to stay here due to flooding. Camp grate and one tent pad was under water.

big, open, oft used therefore trampled site popular with fishermen. can be trashy. nice views of bay and basswood falls area across the fetch. can be windy in camp. good landing and swimming. decent tent pad areas with plenty of room.

Nice sun yet has shade. Nice breeze. Good water access. Good point of land to sit on, enjoy the day and just stare. Maybe 4 hammocks.

Really nice site. our group of 3 youth and 4 adults had plenty of room here. the site is elevated for a great view and the fishing was fairly good. we stayed here for two nights. it is hard for me to judge how many tent pads are at a site because we only use one tent and the majority of us use hammocks.
