We've only stayed at this site one other time back in July 2019, but when we got here this year, it was like coming home. This is one of our favorite sites in the entire BWCAW. It's a long way from any put-in, so it doesn't get much traffic. We did see a few motor boats on the Canadian side, but not nearly as busy as Basswood Lake can be. There is only one other site within a couple of miles. The landing is one of the nicest beaches anywhere, in a cove with sand out for 20 feet into the water, and plenty of swimming (and drying) access from the nearby rocks, too. There is a panoramic view from the rocks in front of the site all the way up and down Lac La Croix. Pictographs are nearby, as is Warrior Hill. The family-size stone table with log benches in the "dining room" is unmatched at any other campsite, and has been enhanced recently to fit better under a tarp. The tent pads are soft and well-drained, with lots of shelter throughout the entire day. There are lots of places to hang hammocks in the shade with a nice view of the lake, and easy-hanging places for tarps. Unfortunately, the site has been so popular that the easy branches for hanging food packs have broken off, so it's a bigger chore to get the rope up to a good branch. Since the site sticks out a little ways into the lake, it gets a nice breeze from all wind directions except northwesterly. We had no problem finding firewood, but we did have to walk back into the woods a little bit in 2019. This year, everything we needed was already piled near the fire grate. Thanks!

Fell into this spot due to the cluster in and above boulder bay being all full. What a lucky break! Great site. Smooth landing into a pebble beach. Multiple good tent spaces. Great hammock options. Very Spacious. Pebble beach on east side of site, soft sand beach on west with a picturesque bluff running out with the shoreline. 3 separate rock points coming off site for good shore fishing. I'm giving a 5 star only because 4.5 isn't available. The only drawback to this site is it does not have a sunset view, which is one of my first priorities. Despite that, still the best overall site I've stayed on in my 9 trips.

The Cadillac of sites with multiple water access points, awesome views, sheltered picnic area, a stone picnic table, beautiful trees. The only downside would be getting to the site via canoe in windy conditions.

Beautiful site. Small hidden beach entry on left and right, flat rock entry straight on. You can sense the history on this one. Short paddle to the pictographs. Had kitchen and dining room with table.
