This site has some of the best views in Sunday Bay, from multiple locations in different directions. There are many levels to the site (be prepared to climb up and down a bit). It has a very nice kitchen with plentiful seating and places to set gear and food prep items. The kitchen itself is quite open, but there is shelter adjacent to and behind the kitchen. We had no problem finding a tent pad out of the wind, "upstairs" just off the path to the latrine. There is a great cedar grove with plenty of room for hammocks or clotheslines, and lots of shade and shelter if that is needed. There are trails going far around the island to various places to explore and try fishing. The worst part about the site, and the only thing keeping it from getting a "5" is the take-out, which is around to the left when viewed from the lake. It's rocky and obstructed, with difficult boat storage. I see in one photo that folks instead dragged the boats up the rock in front and put them next to the kitchen. We unloaded and loaded from the front rock, probably for a similar reason. Note: routing from Curtain Falls is easier by going north then east of the island, rather than trying to get through the weeds between the islands on the southwest side.

It had many trees, making the brigade tarpe and some other things easy to set up. Our stay at this campsite did have a very rare occurrence, there was a storm near and our group were in our lightning safe position, squatting on our P.F.D's, and spread among the trees, when lightning struck a tree 120 feet away from the nearest person. The strike sent ground currents through the ground entering our bodies, 1 went unconscious for under a minute, and 4 out of the 8 had burns on our feet and buttox , from the point the lightning entered our body. About an hour later when it was safe to walk around we made contact to our camp with a satalite phone but because it was around 9:00 pm, we could not be evacuated until the next morning. we ate dinner discussing what had just happened and later that night tried to sleep. The next morning we got up at 5:00 am, to pack all of our stuff and prepare for the float plane, from Ely, that was coming to evacuate us. The plane got to the campsite around 5:30 am, with EMT's to take our vitals and look at our burns. We were flown to Ely and transported by ambulance to the hospital everyone was admitted to the hospital but only the 2 people with the worst injuries had to spend the night, but were discharged the next morning. So overall the campsite is really good except for 1 unfortunate event :)
