BWCA Campsite 2045 on Missionary

This campsite has a lot of the things I like in a campsite: a great view, a breeze if you want it, places to get out of the breeze, white pines, jack pines, cedars along the shore, and even an oak tree. It also has grassy tent pads and a nice kitchen area. The fire grate is built up with a lot of rocks around it, and the site is on a lake where I would expect a good amount of solitude. I found three good tent pads, all in the same general area. One is the large, obvious pad that looks like it gets the most use, and the other two are grassy spots nearby that may be a little lumpy but are still good enough. There are two additional possible tent pads that are rockier, bringing the maximum to five. The landing is pretty good, tucked under a white pine and a jack pine. It would be hard to dry-foot, but if you are willing to get in the water, there is a nice place to pull up and unload. There is also a convenient canoe storage area next to the landing. The kitchen and tent pad areas are fairly open, and behind the tent pads there is a short trail to a large white pine and spruce that are spaced well for a hammock. This site had exactly the kind of mix I was looking for: some sun, some wind protection, and a great setting.

This is a generally average campsite with good tent pads and a so-so landing. There's also an out-of-place oak tree which tells me that there is some history to this particular spot.
