The found ourselves here after a very long day of paddling because the other campsites to the north were already taken. Of the sites in this cluster, this is the least desirable, unless you are planning on spending most of your time fishing around the outlet of Bottle River, of which this is one of the closest. As others have mentioned, the large rock ledge above the water is nice for fishing and swimming, but it's a little slippery for loading and unloading. There is no morning shade, as the site faces east and all of the trees in the main part of the site are bare below 15 feet. There is good shade after the middle of the day, however. It also, thus, has no sunset view. You could theoretically hike to the other side of the island, but we didn't find any obvious trails to do so. There are plenty of tall trees in the main area, so plenty of options for tarps, hammocks, etc. The tent sites are more limited, due to large rocks embedded in the ground. Firewood was abundant, but required a short uphill climb behind the latrine. Speaking of which, the latrine overlooks the lake, but isn't directly visible from the main part of the site, due to the angle of the hill. It was very hot when we were there, and the hill west and behind the site blocked any little breeze, so it was very stuffy in the evenings, and buggier than other sites. It's not a bad site, but I would choose many others nearby before returning here.

The perfect rock to rest your back. Hard to find one like it. Perfect rock for star gazing. Great site for large group.

The fire grate is on a large flat rock a couple of feet off the water. It has a west exposure (shade in the afternoon) that protrudes from the shore just enough to provide a bug clearing breeze. Behind the fire grate is a grove of red pines with just the right spacing to hang a dining fly. In short, this is an exceptional campsite.
