Campsite is mostly rock surface at a slight incline. It is open and sunny. There is forest growth on a drop off opposite the lake that is fun to explore but not usable for tents. There are three obvious tent pads suitable for free-standing tents with shallow stakes. Rating it 4-star is a bit of a push, but the 1 star rating is not appropriate, at least for average weather conditions. Gneiss Lake is mostly in Canada with a number of islands. It’s a nice view!

This site was ok. We got stuck here because the wind was too strong to get through the channel to the north of this campsite, and the island campsite was already taken. Fishing from this campsite is terrible. Caught nothing. We had 6 hammock campers on this trip, but two of them really struggled to find a place. I would not camp here again if I had to, though there were tons of blueberries on the north side of camp that was a welcomed surprise for our pancakes.
