BWCA Campsite 450 on Sea Gull

This was the only site we could find on the lake after 8 rejections, but we found it to be perfect. The landing is easy on an almost sandy beachy spot, You need to lift the canoe about three feet to store it, but it's a nice, secure parking spot and that's easy enough to do with two people. One of the tent pads on the lower area worked great for a tarp, the tent pad on the next level behind the kitchen was big enough for our 6p tent and provided views of the water from three sides. Nice small, but open kitchen. No logs, which was fine. Several large rock spots to sit and read/ fish/ watch the water and sky. Latrine is up a bit of a rocky hike, but it's not too long and is a modern latrine with great views. It belongs to this campsite, but we did encounter campers from the other site who had hiked up to the highest spot on the island directly behind the latrine for the views. Otherwise, we did not hear them or see anyone and this island felt private. It's a big island and the other site is on the other side.This site has its own beautiful bay. Beavers seem to like the island, saw many loons and eagles from the campsite. Great sunset viewing from here.

Other site on island better and we ended up staying there (site 449) after checking this one out. Landing only OK. Nice view (but other site on island better view). Not much for hammock trees at all.

Forced off Seagull by wind we took this site. Very exposed, no shade tent pads are small enough that one can't say either is "good". Latrine is a highlight though, a true throne. Granted, you have to hike 25 vertical feet up the hill to use it, but the views are the best you'll ever have from a latrine. If you keep hiking up the hill past the latrine to the top of the island, the views out over Seagull are sublime. So great place to stop and have lunch. (You can get to the top of the island from the other campsite on the island as well.)
