i have visited this site often by canoe and hiking. it is a well used location by people entering or leaving pickerel lake. in times with lower water levels, there is a terrific sandy point to enjoy. there are a couple of options for tent placement here as well which is nice. it can get quite buggy here depending on conditions and time of year but has the advantage of allowing nice breezes from almost every direction. i like having the option to sit and face east on a cool morning or west for the evening sunset. there is a metal fire grate to use and at times a second fire pit on the sand. this second one seems to come and go during the year. there are also two other sites just down the shore from here. the first has its own beach area and is a great spot. it is also connected to the hiking trail leading either to the campground or to "the pines". the further one is small but usable. a little tight when water is high. west winds can be a blessing or a curse along here. great sunset views though.

Beautiful site. Its my "reward" site at the end of a multi-day trip. I've stayed here many times. On the down-side, its heavily used, likely due to its proximity to Dawson Trail/French Lake put-in/take-out. Fire wood is scant so collect wood en-route. Nice sandy point for swimming. Easy landing on either side of the point. Some reports of leeches in or near the reeds around the point. I've used both east and west sides of campsite for access and water supply with no trouble with leeches. Great spot, if you can get it!!

We'd planned to go further, but the wind on the main part of Pickerel was too much. The sandy spit was nice, but I also remember lots of leeches here.

Stayed here one stormy night in 1975. Loved it, other than getting covered in leeches while swimming. A beautiful sunset, followed by huge winds and rain.

Sandy peninsula leads to small tent pad and fairly nice fire area. An adjacent site would accommodate an additional tent. Can be a heavier traffic area due to main route from French to Pickerel. Overall a nice site.
