BWCA Campsite 740 on Moose

Pretty typical rocky BWCA landing. Short climb up to the site proper. Good area for canoe storage and a couple of convenient sitting rocks down by the lake. A couple of white pine sentinels provide a towering center piece for the site. The fire grate area offers everything you could hope for except the 2 middle bars are missing and the view isn't expansive. Several decent, occasionally lumpy, tent pads and tarp options. Very steep climb to the latrine!

This campsite was great for two people. It was also not where it shows it being on either Google Maps or our Fisher map. The site is actually closer to the east end of Moose lake, so use your eyes to spot this one, not your map/GPS. We were also told by the person at the next site closer to Mountain Lake that the same was true for that site. I've found the details for this side of the boundary water are less accurate than other places we've visited in the wilderness. The thunderdome was quite a hike up a hill to get to, so make sure you leave to use the toilet with plenty of time. We waited out a super windy/rainy day here and enjoyed the site and the view. We found one great tent pad, a decent runner up and the other two that we found were a bit slanted but would work in a pinch. Plenty of trees if you're hammock camping. Great landing. Great bear hang options and not a lot of trash left behind when we were there which was refreshing. Though, PSA: please pick up/do not leave your cigarette butts in nature. Lots of chipmunks and birds. Saw a loon, the Milky Way, and a small show of the Northern Lights. Definitely a great site.

Both tent pad are okay, the bigger one will fit a 10p tent, but someone will have to sleep on top of rough surface. There are at least 4 spot for hammock site. Latrine is pretty high up, so you will have a good view of the whole campsite while doing business. The fire crate is missing two ribs in the middle, but works.

An average site with one good tent pad. The kitchen area was underwhelming. Landing was easy but the water level was done by about a foot so it was easy to fish along the shore. I would use this site again if we didn't have multiple tents.
