There is a decent campsite on this island just downstream (shouting distance) of the main Hay Rapids site. I spent a night here before paddling out and really enjoyed the location. Firstly, this is far enough from the falls that the sound of rushing water doesn't become overwhelming. There is a great landing spot on the southern edge of the island, a good tent pad away from main camping/cooking area, room for maybe two additional tents or a large tarp closer to the main camp, a firepit with sitting logs set up and a grill grate, and plenty of firewood for the cutting. While camped here I spotted a group of swans, a pair of very curious ravens and numerous songbirds around the island. I'd give this spot 4 out of 5 stars - could spend a few nights here and be perfectly comfortable.
