The Moosecamp River is not always navigable. It is most likely to be navigable early in the year when water is high and weeds have not grown in. Later in the summer, water can be low, and the river becomes choked with lily pads.

This is not a maintained route, so even if the water is high, there can be obstacles. A couple of common obstacles are downed trees and mud flats. The mud is very deep in places, and it is hard to pull or paddle through.

There are accounts of groups that attempted the Moosecamp and did not make it. If in doubt, ask a local outfitter about conditions before attempting it.

We explored it as a potential way out. I went out this way back in 2019 and it was tough so this time I wanted to make sure. We made it maybe a 1/4 of the way and it progressively got worse so we turned around and the next day we exited out through Gun. It was pretty though Lot's of flowers and loads of baby ducks!

We started at Moosecamp, and that end was the toughest - we got hung up on some shallow mud and on the log going across the river. Other than that, it was OK, but after the first few hundred yards we were thinking, "If the whole thing is like this, maybe we should turn around." If it were any later in the year, I think the water would have been too low or the weeds too thick to get through.
