What an incredible portage to end an amazing trip. A stone staircase leads up from the lake with an amazing view back towards the water. The BWCA sign was old and covered in lichen which was neat. We walked this portage during a break in the snow and everything was gorgeous in the arternoon light. Nice, enjoyable way to end our trip

From the parking lot; this one starts out innocently enough, traversing over a gravel laden trail that rolls up and down a few small knobs. A short distance later the path morphs into a tough alpine like ascent virtually the rest of the way. There are even a couple of stone staircases to aid the weary traveler. The last couple of rods the trail drops steeply down to Ram Lake to a boulder strewn landing. There is a panoramic view of Lima Mountain and the adjoining countryside when trekking back towards the parking lot.
