Woodland Caribou Portage 20016 (Amber to Nutria)

I have not seen this portage since the 2021 forest fire, and I have to agree with the other comments...still challenging. I think the Park was through here in 2024 with a chainsaw crew. Only one tree I had to walk around. But the underbrush is coming back thick making it hard to see the path. I added orange flagging at the north entrance and a rock cairn and orange flagging at the south entrance. On the plus side...it seems most of the bigger standing dead have come down, so that won't be an issue in the future...only lack of use and regrowth.

Vern's right again - this one got abused by the fire and the regrowth - I fell hard once because I could not see my footing. I was also continually worried that I was off the path - fortunately spotting an old blaze from time to time, reassuring me for at least a few more paces...repeat, for 600 m. Surprised that other burn areas were flagged but this one was not (other than flagging at the north end landing). Just a few blazes. Hard work here!

A challenging portage made MUCH worse by the fires. Very hard to find and almost impossible to follow without a GPS track with blowdowns, new growth and grasses. Once you find the route it's still there but small detours may be required due to fallen trees. See photos below.
