Woodland Caribou Portage 20294 (Dunstan to Unnamed)

*2026 Update*: It has been three years since I last saw this portage and found it clear of big trees. Park crews have been through recently with chainsaws. But the post-fire regrowth is coming back thick, so I took the time with a folding saw and brushed back the small jack pine saplings that are growing back along the trail. The well worn portage trail is now much easier to follow. I also fixed up both entrances so they should both be easier to see from the water with brushed back tag alders/moose maple and tree blazes.

Thankfully this 750 meter portage was cleaned up in 2023 and in 2024 we benefited from this effort big time. There are lots of standing (dead) trees ready to fall in here, but plenty of ribbons and cut trees to assist the route finding which can get a little tricky in the open burnt terrain. Certainly looks nothing like the first two photos below anymore as you can see by the others I added.
