This is the first time I have travelled this portage and was surprised in how good of a shape it is in. It was last burned in 2016, so the re-growth is coming back thick. But the path is still easy to follow with many cairns marking the way over the granite ridges. It seems to get enough use from paddlers coming in from Manitoba. I knocked back as much of the growth as I could so it is even better now. The last 250 m at the north end drops off the high ridges and down into an area that was not completely burned, so burnt standing dead is still falling over. I had to walk around a couple of these trees. Easy to find. The south end is marked with tree blazes, rock cairn, and orange flagging. The north entrance is marked with only orange flagging due to the low swampy area covered in bushes.
