In winter, it will be necessary to extend this portage a bit on both ends to avoid open water, but alternative "landings" are pretty straightforward and lead clearly to the true portage trail: I suspect this corresponds to what is mentioned in the previous canoer comments. As with the pond on the east end of this portage, it is basically possible to avoid being on ice altogether in the pond on the west end by crossing over the spruce bog on its north side.

We took the first short portage only to realize there was a beaver dam at the top of the rapids. In the high water levels and swift currents, we took the longer portage extension around to get further out of the current. It's on the left.

very short portage. there is a longer portage to an easy landing, but I don't think it is officially maintained and had multiple huge trees lying on it.
