BWCA Portage 368 (Pine to Long)

From Pine Lake: Tiny, fairly convenient, hole in the wall landing that is right where most maps show it to be. It climbs steeply right from the get-go and then levels off (for not nearly long enough) and might even give back a little of the elevation gained which is a shame because another longer climb soon follows. Mercifully the steep gradient begins tapering off and then crests descending (over maybe the last 10-15% of the overall length) to a grassy landing on Long Lake. Apart from the atrocious climb itself, the trail was in very good condition - no big mud holes, long boulder hopscotches etc. Cautionary note: When heading back to Pine and you first see the water, DON'T think you're almost back to the lake! :)

Well, it is as expected. This portage has a narrow, unsuspecting landing and then heads up, takes a break, up, then another break, and then one more push. It's steep, minimally traveled, and has a beautiful pair of lakes on the top. Coming back down has a nice overlook of Pine, but don't stare too long, it's quite the fall down the portage!
