It feels shorter than the advertized length. The portage is muddy on the Big Lake end but is generally a flat and easy-to-follow trail. There are a couple of neat rock faces along the route before descending down to Lapond where there are a plethora of landing options depending on which trail you follow. I liked the second one on the right which has an open rock face and a perfect sitting boulder.

The biggest thing to worry about on this portage is the landing on the Big Lake side...it is muddy, to put it lightly. Shoe sucking mud that covers the entire portage landing. There is a brief, but manageable climb out of Big Lake. There are two landings on the Lapond Lake side. Both of those are decent. 2/5
