I concur with the previous review: it was a sand patch on our visit. Easy walk along the trail from the pond to Buckingham.

In high water, the landing on the Art Lake side wasn't obvious. Probably a sandy patch in low water conditions. We were here in a season of particularly high water, and this portage was quite challenging because of it...about a third of the trail on the Buckingham side was flooded...knee deep, with a significant current, and lots of large rocks under the water. It made for particularly challenging footing with a canoe on my head. The landing on the Buckingham side was essentially non-existent in high water, and would probably be small and awkward in normal conditions.
