70 rods measured by step counting (Paddle Planner indicates it is 93 rods) The landing on the Bird Lake side is right by the creek on the rocks, not as indicated on McKenzie or Paddle Planner. It is a nice spot for a lunch break. The Anubis Lake side is also closer to the creek than indicated. It can be a little bit difficult to recognize the landing on Anubis side due to the immediate steep climb up the rocks. Only room for 1 canoe at a time on both sides when loading / unloading. Trail is a bit rocky but doable. Small tree and shrub branches are encroaching on the trail, but not creating any super challenges. NOTE: On Bird lake there are 2 beaver dams blocking both ways out from the portage controlling the water level (1 foot) on the entire west side of the big island. We portaged over both of them on our way out and back from Kawnipi, On the south choke point, this well constructed beaver dam was walkable. We hauled gear up and over the beaver dam. On the north chokepoint, we blazed a new portage immediately north of the dam on the land bridge, 5 rods measured with step counting.

Portage start on bird differs from map. Portage starts right at the stream. Once you find it and carefully unload, it's a pretty simple portage.
