80 rods measured by step counting. A somewhat rocky trail but not beyond walkability. Landing is average on the Agnes and Bird Lake sides. Small tree and shrub branches are encroaching on the trail; it needs a bit of maintenance. This does not affect the portage significantly. Bird side may take a little bit of shore staring to find landing, NOTE: On Bird lake there are 2 beaver dams blocking both ways out from the portage controlling the water level (1 foot) on the entire west side of the big island. We portaged over both of them on our way out and back from Kawnipi, On the south choke point, this well constructed beaver dam was walkable. We hauled gear up and over the beaver dam. On the north chokepoint, we blazed a new portage immediately north of the dam on the land bridge, 5 rods measured with step counting.
