South landing can be difficult to spot when approaching from south. Current coming downstream from the falls requires strong paddling to overcome, swing left around the point of land, then look for the landing. It's possible to land on the west bank south of the point of land, climb the bank, and scout the approach. The trail is up and down, through some light brush and mud about halfway. South landing is decent, north landing is good. This portage is much preferable to the US landing when approaching from the south. Approaching the US portage from the south requires you to attain through the converging currents, a tumultuous and frankly dangerous approach in anything but the most gentle flows.

While shorter, this portage is quite a bit more difficult than the one on the American side, especially if the conditions are wet. The mud on this portage is quite bad, and all-but-unavoidable. It's also quite steep. The only thing it has going for it is easier landings.

Thick, deep, suck the shoe off your foot mud here. Stick to the US portage if possible.

Good landings on either end, that's the good news. A luge run otherwise. OK when dry, although almost always a deep U-shape. If it's wet, tighten up your boot laces before you attempt this. Two or three deadfalls to deal with when I did this one.
