Duluth Pack

A Duluth pack is a backpack-style bag with a large cargo volume, designed to fit nicely in a canoe, and is easy to load and unload into a canoe.  They are useful for carrying gear and other items across portages.  Their ease of use is especially important when your wife won’t shut up about how long it is taking to “get out of this hell hole that I never wanted to go to.  I wanted to go to Arrowwood, but no, that’s not ‘fun’ or ‘relaxing’ or ‘enjoyable’, as if hauling two-hundred pounds of crappy freeze dry across a bug-laden boulder field is all of that”.  Many models come with hidden pockets in which it is easy to conceal booze bottles and fireworks in case those pesky, nosy rangers come by to harass you.  In the early 1600s their use was very common along the North Shore of Minnesota for hauling iron ore from the mines to the docks on Lake Superior, thus becoming the namesake of the city of Duluth, MN.
