Needs some info on portages #859 & #811 for a possible trip in 2015.  The will possible be done by a group of 2.  One of the group will be 63 yrs old and the other is about 53 yrs younger.  The 63 yr old is very capable of carrying his load acroos portages, but would like to know more about these 2 portages.

I'm guessing this will be a loop trip? If that is the case, those two portages, though long, aren't the ones I would worry about. The series of portages between Kiskadinna and Banadad are seldom used and will probably present a bigger challenge. However, I haven't been there and can't offer and first-hand viewpoints.

(For those responding, the two portages are Poplar-Skipper and Poplar-Meeds.)

Yes, this would be a loop trip. Which portages are you talking about? I have been over the portages from Long Island Lake to Meeds a few years ago and the hardest portage was the one from Muskeg to Kiskadinna. I have not been on the portages from Poplar Lake to Long Island Lake entering at Skipper Lake. This a trip that we (Ruddy & I) are possibly looking at doing next year.

The Muskeg-Kiskadinna portage sounds tough. It gains/drops (depending on the way you're going) 50 meters over 70 rods. I've also heard the portages from Long Island to Banadad are seldom used and could be somewhat overgrown.

All this being said, I haven't been there myself. This is just what I've heard.
