We made the mistake of crossing the big water to this site with a big storm bearing down on us from the northwest. We just had time to get a tarp set up when we were walloped by gusty winds and a torrential downpour. We stayed reasonably dry behind the tarp, but the water ran down the hill into where we were huddled and turned it into a big puddle. We would have been much better off going to Twentyseven Island. The take-out is not great. There are worse ones in the area (especially the next closest site), but the winds whipping in from the northwest made unloading and loading very difficult. Even if the weather was nice, it wouldn't be a nice place to swim, with large rocks everywhere. The site is very open, which probably keeps the bugs away in nicer weather, but was the worst case for us, as the gusty winds persisted the entire time we were there, and the latrine was the only place to go to get relief (as it were). The white pines make for easy hanging of tarps, clothesline, etc., and decent shade throughout the site. There is plenty of room for hammocks, but only a couple spots where it would makes sense to put down a tent. Everyplace else is pretty rocky. The kitchen looks like it would be okay, but the weather we had wasn't conducive to starting a fire. In nicer weather, it probably has great sunset views. The Fisher map from 2019 we had shows the site back in a little bay. This web site has it correctly placed on the point. It's an easy hike over to the camp site on the point just to the north, but there is no trail. This site clearly gets a lot of use. I was surprised no one else had reviewed it. It's also possible that motor boaters are sneaking in here to use the "facilities." We had a couple of them whiz past, probably illegally too far south.
