BWCA Campsite 1416 on Spoon

I really liked this campsite. The landing is very easy, with a shallow sandy bay, and the site is not very high off the water. The view is somewhat screened, but there is still a nice window out onto the lake. A clump of cedar trees sits between the two landing/view openings, and those cedars also help provide wind protection from the west. Behind the site there are a lot of white pines, which gives the campsite a feel that I really like. The kitchen is in the middle of a large open area, and from there you can look through the window of trees toward the lake. There are two good tent pads and three maximum tent pads. One pad is under a white pine, though the lower branches may be close to the top of a taller tent. The other good pad is in the main camp area, but it is rocky and gravelly, so staking may take some care. The third possible pad is a flat rock under a white pine. It is slanted and uneven, and you would not be able to stake into it, but it could work in a pinch. There was also a lot of beaver activity behind the site, with plenty of downed wood beyond the latrine.

Good landing. Excellent northern fishing. Doesn't get a lot of use. Two small tent pads...maybe another but rocky.

Located in it's own small bay it has a good landing. Much of the fire grate and kitchen area is a boulder field but, there are some decent trees in camp. There are also a couple of nice tent pads back behind the kitchen area.

Nothing remarkable about this site. It's an adequate place to stay that is close to the main travel route through the lake.
