BWCA Campsite 1420 on Sema

This is the only campsite on Sema Lake, and it is very small. The site is basically a small clearing in thick woods, about 20 feet across. The landing is difficult and slippery, marked by a leaning cedar tree that hangs across the landing. There is room at the landing to pull up and store a canoe, and then a short trail leads up to the campsite proper. The fire grate has no seating, and if you sit near it with a chair, you can barely see a little bit of the lake through the landing. Otherwise, the whole site is surrounded by spruce and balsam, with a few cedars, aspen, and birch. There are some red and white pines in the distance, but not really in the campsite itself. I would call this one good tent pad and one maximum tent pad, though even that pad is borderline. It is really only suitable for a very small party, such as a solo camper or two people. The upside is that you would likely have the lake to yourself, since Sema is not on an easy travel route.

Very narrow rocky landing that leads up to a tiny camp. No log seating and little room for any purpose. However, Sema is a beautiful lake, firewood was readily available and the lake trout were cooperative.
