BWCA Campsite 1423 on Kekekabic

This campsite is on a hillside, so most of the site has some slope to it. The kitchen is close to the water and raised maybe eight feet above it, with a pretty good view. Some of the tent pads actually have an even better view than the kitchen. At first I thought the landing was a little difficult, with a small opening in the trees and knee-deep water for unloading. I later realized I had missed the actual landing. The real landing is a little to the west and looks like a wide rocky takeout area, with enough room to parallel park the canoe and store gear. The main camp area is slanted and rocky. The tent pads are up the hill, which is a pretty steep climb. Along that trail there are two very good, flat tent pads. There is another tent pad on the other side of camp, but it is uneven and rocky, so I would not call it good. One of the good pads also has another nearby spot in the woods where a tent could go if needed. There is a red pine growing at about a 45-degree angle right in front of the fire grate, which should provide some shade during the day. There are a couple other red pines, cedars along the shore, and then a mix of brush, birch, aspen, and similar trees behind the site.

It's true that this site has a kitchen perched on a cliff, but there are multiple pads if you follow the trails, as has been noted. The path to the east from the campsite takes you to forested tent pads, and then up along the cliff to multiple beautiful overlooks. At the end of this trail there is a great little area for a one-person tent or a hammock that is a spectacular place to wake up, high above the lake with a panoramic view east and south. Note that the actual site is quite a bit further east than where it is marked. The landing is due east of the marker, just before the shoreline turns ENE

At first glance from the water, most would pass on this site. Fire grate area is on a bushy slope with no tent pads in sight. However on further exploration, there are some nice large flat tent pads up the trail in the woods. If you keep going up the trail to the top of the cliff, there is another place for a small tent and hammock hang overlooking the lake. As others mentioned, it's a good spot for some cliff jumping too.

This campsite sits on a steep, brushy slope. I'm not sure there's a flat spot for a tent here. We passed it by for the better one down the shore.

OK site but is located on a hill and the kitchen area is on a slope out in the open. Canoe landing is not great. Tent pads aren't bad, located up above. The real draw to this site is the cliff jumping off the back, with jumps up to about 30' available. We stopped for the cliff jumping as the site was empty but didn't stay here.

Was going east on Kek to try to find a site after seeing site 1422 was taken. We couldn't even find 1423, and were right along the cliffs. Went right up to 1424 and so glad we did, as it was a fantastic site.
