BWCA Campsite 1459 on Knife

This campsite is very shaded and sheltered. It faces east, but you do not get much of a lake view from camp because trees and brush screen the site almost completely. The landing is a shallow gravel area with a trail leading up from it, and there is a place off to the side where you can store canoes. The campsite itself is pretty small, basically a grassy opening in the spruce trees. It will likely be shaded all day. There are two good tent pads and three maximum tent pads. The tent pads are grassy and a little lumpy, but they are flat and level enough to work. The lumps are mostly dirt, so they may flatten out some once you step or sleep on them. This is a basic, no-frills campsite without much of a view, but it would be useful if you are trying to get out of wind, weather, or a storm.

We took shelter here during a Thunderstorm. It was a little tricky to find! The camp had a cozy feel to it and was very protected from the wind during our storm waylay. This is a nice Spring/Fall location if you need reprieve from the wind.
