Quetico Campsite 701

Very flat and open campsite overlooking Hay Rapids. Canoe landing on southwest side of island.

I explored this spot but did not stay here. This appears to be a heavily used campsite, with multiple flat tent pads and a great scenic & fishing location just below Hay Rapids. I'd have given 5 stars, but there is a toilet seat hanging between trees on the end of the island with a 5 gallon bucket below it filled to capacity. Yuck. There are two additional campsites on islands in this area, both within shouting distance of this site. I stayed at the one just downstream and had a pleasant night. Great landing spot and room for 2 or three tents - I'd give it 4 stars. The other campsite is a little upstream and hasn't been used recently but it would work in a pinch, maybe 2 tent pads if some fallen pines were moved out of the way.

Great open site with a carpet of pine needles. Very small fire ring and limited kitchen area. Good landing and swimming areas. Only site available between Hay Portage and Lady Rapids so it may be taken. Very limited toileting area. Overall, a great site for large tenting groups.
